24 Days of Thought-Provoking Questions
Hello Wild ones,
I hope you have been well and keeping safe. So Today I will be rumble about this question in my current series that runs all the way to my birthday on May 24th wooop!!! Wooop!! Hurray!!! (Confetti flying around)
So when was the last time I did something new?
I have been staring at this question for a long time trying to figure the last time I intentionally did something new without being forced by a circumstance and I remembered my poetry performance at a poetry show in front of a loooot of people. I remember how scary it was, I started out shaking but the time I was done I was feeling so good. I felt really good. I was glad that my friend pushed me to go. I remember I had dressed up then decided to go back to sleep earlier that day then she called me to find out when it was happening and I didn’t have the heart to say that I had chickened out so I woke up and went anyway. (Thank God for friends like this) This whole incident happened back in January, this should say something about my love for adventure. I barely try new things. In fact, new things scare me. I go through this intense anxiety every time there is something new happening in my life. I remember the week before joining university I was so nervous that I used to keep nose bleeding. Since I am bad at trying new things let me see Doctor Google says about this dire case of rigidness!!
From the research, all these things come down to the “Fear of The Unknown.” People like me are afraid of things that I don’t know the outcome of. I am the kind of person who follows a routine and if something disrupts my plan to lead me to something new I find myself panicking a lot. People like me like to know what exactly is going to happen. I can’t even handle tension in a movie, I sometimes google the end then continue watching more at ease. This clearly is no way to live because then you will not live life to the fullest. Some of the ways to overcome this fear can be:
🌸 Listen to your Gut- They often flip a coin and you will know exactly what you want because you find subconsciously wishing the coin flips on one side. When trying something new, you have this vibration in you that’s begging you to do that thing no matter how afraid you are. Act on that feeling when you are done, you will be glad you did it.
🌸Prepare before you start– I like to write list for everything and everybody that I need and every task I need to do in order to get through something new. Creating a roadmap helps ease my mind.
🌸 Start small– Every journey starts with one step. Just do it!! If you want to write, just start with the first words and eventually, you will have a long essay.
🌸Challenge limiting belief system– Challenge yourself to look beyond what is familiar. Talk to people who are different than you. Challenge your own beliefs to seek to understand other people.
🌸Support system– Get people who can stand by you as you start something new. They will hold you up when you want to believe that your feet can’t hold you.
🌸 Believe in yourself- Dare to believe that you are marvelous and amazing. Dare to suspect that you better than you think you are. Allow yourself to go for things you think you are not qualified for.
🌸Change your view of failure– Look at rejection as redirection when things don’t work out, at least you can say you tried and it didn’t work out. Dare to erase the “what if’s ” that keep up at night.
I will be definitely making sure I try something new very soon. I hope you do the same. When was the last time you did something new?
